Environment ministry to pass on some approval powers, paper says

China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection said Tuesday that it will delegate approval rights on 25 environmental impact assessments for projects such as natural gas power stations, city rail transport and civil airport expansion, the China Securities Journal reported Wednesday. The powers will be passed on to local authorities, a move that will facilitate speedier approvals and promote economic development, it said. The ministry will, however, retain approval rights on projects that have cross-border participation or are sensitive in nature, the report said.
