Shanghai expects the number of private-owned new-energy cars in the city to reach 20,000 by 2015, according to a statement posted on the municipal government’s website Wednesday. An unidentified official from the Shanghai development and reform commission said in the statement that clean-energy vehicles are expected to account for more than 60 percent of Shanghai’s new public transport buses in 2015. Shanghai will allocate up to 5 percent of its gross domestic product for environmental protection projects, it said. The government expects coal consumption in the city to see negative growth in 2017.
