About 26 million tons of soybean will be exported from the United States to China over the twelve months to August 2014, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday, citing the US Soybean Export Council. The amount will be a record for China’s soybean imports from the US, the world’s largest soybean producer, it said. Zhang Xiaoping, the Council’s chief representative in China, was quoted as saying in Shanghai Tuesday that the record imports reflect China’s strong buying power and demand. During the period, China will import nearly 70 million tons of soybean overall while producing 15 million tons domestically, according to the report.
