China’s leaders are pushing urbanization to help remake the economy, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. This will encourage rural residents to move to smaller cities, rather than Beijing, Shanghai and other megacities. The Communist Party reaffirmed urbanization as a top national priority during a two-day meeting last week, the report said. The government will continue to exert “strict control” over the growth of China’s largest cities while trying to relocate migrants to smaller and medium-sized cities, it said in a statement on the official Xinhua news agency.
