China Mobile and China Unicom said on Monday that they have begun work on new cloud computing parks in the southwestern Guizhou province, with total investment of 7 billion yuan (US$1.15 billion), Xinhua news agency reported. The cloud computing parks are located in the Gui’an new area in Guizhou where China Telecom had already begun construction of a similar facility in October. China Unicom plans to invest 5 billion yuan in its facility while China Mobile will invest 2 billion yuan on its park. The Gui’an new area includes land in Guiyang, the provincial capital, and the neighboring city of Anshun. It is one of five key new areas identified in China’s 12th five-year plan to promote development in western regions, Xinhua noted.
