President Xi Jinping has promised more room and opportunities for Hong Kong’s development, the official Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday. Xi made the remarks after hearing a report by Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying on the work of his government. The central government affirmed the work of Leung and his administration in maintaining stability while promoting people’s livelihood and tackling social and economic issues, the report said. Last month’s decision by the Communist Party plenum to push forward reform will lead to stronger cooperation and exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong, Xi was quoted as saying.
