China is spending almost US$5 billion on a new fund to support the nation’s microchip industry, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The fund, announced by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology late Wednesday, will focus on investment in Beijing to increase chip production and enhance facilities for chip design and testing.
