100 mln yuan set aside for winter vegetable supply, Xinhua says

The government will allocate 100 million yuan (US$16.47 million) to ensure enough supply of fresh vegetables for China’s northern regions during winter, Xinhua news agency reported over the weekend, citing an unnamed source with the Ministry of Agriculture. The fund will be mainly used to construct large vegetable production bases in cities covered by a pilot government policy on agricultural production, the source said. The supply of fresh vegetables is sufficient in most areas, although some northern cities suffer from seasonal shortages in winter and early spring, the report said.
