China banks’ total assets top 145 trln yuan, report says

The total assets of China’s banking industry reached 145.33 trillion yuan (US$23.94 trillion) as of the end of November, up 1.63 trillion yuan from the end of October and marking an increase of 14.4 percent over a year earlier, news website caijing.com reported Wednesday, citing data released by the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC). The combined debts at banks and financial institutions stood at 135.38 trillion yuan, up 14.2 percent year on year. As of end-November, major commercial banks’ total assets were up 9.2 percent from a year earlier at 61.41 trillion yuan, accounting for 42.3 percent of assets of the entire banking industry, the report said.
