CNPC evacuates workers from South Sudan oilfield, Xinhua says

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is said to have evacuated the first batch of 97 workers from the biggest oilfield in Upper Nile State of South Sudan to capital Khartoum on Wednesday, with another batch of 207 Chinese workers to be brought to safety a little later, Xinhua news agency reported. CNPC said a small number of Chinese workers will remain at the oilfield, which accounts for four-fifths of the entire oil production of South Sudan. The South Sudan government has dispatched armed forces to protect oilfield assets after military tensions broke out in the central African country this month.
