Hainan duty-free sales hit 6.3 bln yuan, Xinhua says

South China’s Hainan province saw sales at its duty-free shops surge to 6.3 billion yuan (US$1.03 billion) between April 2011 and December 2013, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday. Tourist arrivals in the province reached 2.51 million during the period while sales volume at its two duty-free stores — one in the provincial capital of Haikou and the other in Sanya — hit 8.96 million items, according to data from the Haikou customs bureau. Tourism revenue this year is expected to reach 43.6 billion yuan, up from 38 billion yuan in 2012, the report said.
