Three firms said to be caught up in vaccine scare, paper says

Three major Chinese vaccine producers were said to be involved in a hepatitis B vaccines problem that is believed to have caused the death of at least 11 babies so far, Beijing Times reported Thursday. Seven infants in Hunan and Guangdong died recently after reportedly being injected with hepatitis B vaccines produced by Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co. Ltd., while three other babies’ deaths may be linked to vaccines produced by Beijing Tiantan Biological Products Co. Ltd. (600161.CN), the report said. Another case, reported in Yongjia in Zhejiang province, is said to involve a product of Dalian Hissen Bio-pharm Inc. Dalian Hissen and Beijing Tiantan said in separate statements Wednesday that their vaccine products are in in full compliance with related standards. A team of government investigators was sent to Biokangtai, China Central Television reported Tuesday.
