Beijing cancels meeting after Abe shrine visit, Kyodo says

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong {劉延東} on Thursday canceled a meeting with a delegation of Japanese legislators in Beijing after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the controversial Yasukuni Shrine earlier in the day, Kyodo news agency reported, citing the Japanese embassy. The delegation had met with officials of the China-Japan Friendship Association on Wednesday, the report said. Abe’s visit to the Tokyo shrine, which commemorates Japan’s war dead including World War II criminals, was condemned by both China and South Korea.
