Doctors warned against kickbacks from drug firms, report says

China renewed its warning against doctors who take kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies or accept “red envelopes” from patients, saying they will face punishments ranging from reproach to dismissal, the official Xinhua news agency reported Thursday, citing a joint circular issued by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Doctors are banned from promoting medical products and taking commissions for prescribing drugs, according to the circular. They are also not allowed to accept illegal donations, the report said.
