Over 500,000 visas issued by South Korea consulate, Yonhap says

South Korea’s consulate general in Shanghai said on Thursday it has issued more than 500,000 visas this year, making it the country’s first consulate to be able to do so within a year, Yonhap news agency reported. The figure represents a 36 percent increase from the whole of 2012 and is almost equal to the combined number of visas issued by all of its consulates this year, the report said, adding that it could have been higher had it not been temporarily affected by China’s new tourism law which took effect in October. South Korean President Park Geun-hye’s visit to China in June has helped spur Chinese interest in the country, Consul-General Gu Sang-chan was quoted as saying.
