Police gearing up for Spring Festival travel rush, report says

Police will step up patrol and inspection efforts to ensure road safety during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush starting on Jan. 16, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday, citing a statement from the Ministry of Public Security. Traffic management authorities plan to carry out two safety checks nationwide ahead of the festival season, focusing on unsafe vehicles and unqualified drivers while ensuring that warning signs are erected along accident-prone road sections. The Lunar New Year falls on Jan. 31, and authorities expect about 3.28 billion road trips will be made between Jan. 16 and Feb. 24, the report said.
