Hunan political advisor sacked over election fraud, paper says

Tong Mingqian {童名謙}, vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, was sacked from his post earlier this month for dereliction of duty in an election fraud case in the province, the People’s Daily reported Monday, citing the provincial government. The Hunan Provincial People’s Congress resolved over the weekend to dismiss 56 members of the Hengyang congress for allegedly giving out more than 110 million yuan (US$18.13 million) in election bribes to 518 other lawmakers and 68 election officials, the report said.
