Shanghai GM to recall nearly 1.5 mln vehicles, Xinhua says

Shanghai General Motors Co., a joint venture between General Motors Co. and China’s SAIC Motor Corp., will recall nearly 1.5 million vehicles in one of the largest such moves in China this year, Xinhua news agency reported over the weekend, citing the national quality watchdog. Up to 1.2 million Buick Excelle vehicles made between January 17, 2006 and December 2, 2011 and 243,297 Chevrolet Sail units made between April 9, 2009 and October 8, 2011 are affected by the recall, due to start on Monday, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine was quoted as saying. A faulty fuel pump bracket may crack and pose safety risk, with the company blaming it on a problem in the supplier’s manufacturing process.
