Beijing transport authorities have rolled out guidelines on passenger car sharing in a move aimed at reducing the number of vehicles on the road, which will help promote energy conservation, pollution reduction and alleviating the traffic situation, government portal gov.cn reported Thursday. Under the guidelines, Beijing residents are encouraged to share the use of passenger cars and split the costs. At present, the average number of passengers in a conventional five-seater vehicle in Beijing is only 1.3, meaning there is a high level of wastage. Authorities have suggested that passenger car rides should be around half of what an equivalent taxi trip would cost, the report said.
