Shanxi province has seen the number of coking coal mines reduced to 80 since it launched reform and fast tracked mergers and acquisitions in May 2012. That is a 60 percent fall from 223, China Securities Journal reported Monday. The average production capacity of coking firms in the province has increased to more than two million tons a year from 700,000 tons. Shanxi is the country’s bigest source of coking coal, producing more than 90 million tons annually, the report said.
