Box-office revenue in China reached 21.77 billion yuan (US$3.57 billion) in 2013, up 27.5 percent from the previous year, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday, citing the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. Domestic films contributed 12.77 billion yuan, accounting for 58.6 percent of the combined revenue, it said. The rising box-office income was mainly driven by expansion of cinemas as well as the rapid growth in the number of filmgoers, the report said. Overseas income realized by home-made films grew 33 percent to 1.41 billion yuan for the period, it added.
