Chinese President Xi Jinping is calling for increased innovation in science and technology to support productivity and national growth, the official Xinhua news agency reported Monday. Xi made the remarks during a meeting with space scientists and engineers who participated in the research and development of the Chang’e-3 lunar mission. Xi wants science and technology innovation to be in a “core position” in the country’s overall development, the report said. The Chang’e-3 lunar probe landed on the moon on Dec. 14, making China only the third country to carry out such a mission after the United States and the Soviet Union.
