Key cities step up urbanization, paper says

Several major cities including Hangzhou, Ningbo and Fuzhou have unveiled their 2014 urbanization plans, highlighted by stepped up development of suburban areas, National Business Daily reported Thursday. This will spur a broader effort to build urban centers nationwide, Xu Fengxian, a senior researcher at the Economic Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was quoted as saying. Fuzhou and Wuhan are planning to invest 100 billion yuan (US$16.52 billion) and 150 billion yuan, respectively, in urban infrastructure projects this year, the report said.
