Volkswagen A.G. has reclaimed the top position among foreign automakers in China as the German firm beat General Motors Co. in total sales last year for the first time in nine years, National Business Daily reported Thursday, citing the latest sales figures published by the Chinese ventures of the companies. Volkswagen’s two ventures in China sold more than 3.12 million cars last year, and the group also sold 80,000 imported vehicles in the country during the year, the report said. In comparison, General Motors sold only a total of 3.16 million vehicles in China in 2013, it said. South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. came in third and fourth respectively, followed by Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and PSA Peugeot Citroen. A rough calculation shows the eight foreign automakers had combined sales of more than 12.4 million cars in China last year, the report said.
