The State Council has approved a proposal to establish two new economic zones, one in Shaanxi and the other in Guizhou province, according to information posted on the government’s official website Friday. The Xixian New Zone in Shaanxi province will be spread over 882 square kilometers between the main urban areas of Xi’an and Xianyang. Meanwhile, the Guizhou zone, which will cover 1,795-square-kilometers, will include 4 counties and 20 villages and towns around the provincial capital Guiyang and Anshun city. The new economic zones are part of China’s Western Development Strategy.
