Volkswagen AG said on Saturday that its global sales hit a record high last year on stronger demand from the Asia-Pacific region, especially China, Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. In 2013, the German automaker delivered more than 9.7 million vehicles around the world, up about 5 percent from the previous year, the report said. Most of the growth was contributed by the Asia-Pacific market, where 3.64 million vehicles were sold in 2013, 14.7 percent higher than in previous year. Of the total sales in the region, 3.27 million were accounted for by China, Volkswagen’s largest single market, the report said, noting that sales in the country rose 16.2 percent from a year ago.
