Nicaragua canal work ‘to start in 2014′, paper says

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Chinese tycoon Wang Jing said Saturday that plans were on track to start building a US$40 billion canal across the Central American country in December, Global Times reported Monday, citing Agence France-Presse. Wang’s Beijing Interoceanic Canal Investment Management Company has secured the rights to dig the waterway and operate it for at least 50 yearsThe statement counters comments from Nicaragua’s Canal Authority chief Manuel Coronel Kautz that work would not start until 2015, the report said.
