Pollution, yuan cast pall over Beijing tourism, paper says

The weak global economy, the strong yuan and pollution problems are to blame for a 10 percent fall in inbound tourism to Beijing in the first 11 months of last year, China Daily reported Monday, citing tourism officials. From January to November, the capital had 4.2 million visitors, down 10.3 percent year-on-year, the Beijing Tourism Development Commission reported. The effect of a 72-hour visa waiver for transit passengers also failed to meet expectations, industry insiders said.
