SARFT launches crackdown on extortion by ‘media’, govt says

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has launched a nationwide crackdown on unscrupulous individuals and groups who use their journalistic credentials, many of which are fake, to engage in extortion and blackmail, the regulator said in a statement on the government website Monday. The campaign will last until March, the statement said. The regulator will also tighten supervision of children’s books and textbooks for primary and secondary school students, as well as review regulations on the publication of magazines and newspapers, in a bid to promote the healthy development of the publishing sector, it said.
