Contracting rights cover 26% of farmland, paper says

The transfer of contracting rights to farmers has covered 26 percent of the country’s farmland as of end-November, Economic Information Daily reported Tuesday, citing data from the Ministry of Agriculture. The program has benefited 2.87 million farmers nationwide, who now have contracting rights to at least 50 mu (33,333.5 square meters) of land each, the report said. To achieve a more efficient allocation of farmland resources, the government are likely to set up a mechanism this year that will separate farmland ownership, contracting and operation rights, analysts were quoted as saying.
