Shanghai Tobacco biggest taxpayer in city, Sina says

Shanghai’s tax revenue in 2013 rose 9.5 percent to 824.32 billion yuan (US$136.42 billion) from the previous year, news portal Sina.com reported Monday, citing the city’s taxation department. For the first time, the local tax authority also announced the city’s top 100 taxpayers for the year, led by Shanghai Tobacco Group Co. Ltd. The company paid 64.73 billion yuan, accounting for 42.38 percent of the combined tax revenue from the city’s so-called second industry, the report said. The tobacco firm’s tax payment was higher than the combined tax payments of the second to tenth highest tax-paying firms in the city, it added.
