China is expected to establish a national cable TV network operator this month, Global Times reported Wednesday. The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has appointed Zhao Jingchun, former head of the Henan Administration of Radio, Film and Television, as chairman of the new company, the newspaper said, citing a Beijing News report. The new company will serve as the country’s fourth broadband operator after China Mobile (00941.HK), China Unicom (00762.HK) and China Telecom (00728.HK), as many local cable TV network operators run wire-based broadband services for households, analysts were quoted as saying. But it is difficult for the new company to consolidate all local cable TV networks across the country, as many of these networks are seeking their own public listings, said Zeng Huiming, chief executive of industry news portal Sarft.net.
