Cross-strait trade up 16.7% at US$197.2 bln in 2013, paper says

Trade between mainland China and Taiwan grew 16.7 percent year on year to US$197.2 billion in 2013, with the island enjoying a surplus of US$116 billion, China Daily reported Wednesday, citing remarks by Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. Taiwan also received Beijing’s approval for 1,804 investment projects in the mainland worth a combined US$1.89 billion, while 50 mainland companies invested US$117 million in the island for the year, Ma was quoted as saying. Since 2009, mainland enterprises have invested about US$1.03 billion in 193 projects in Taiwan, the report said.
