China should promote the use of mini electric cars and enable the producers of such vehicles to enjoy government subsidies, National Business Daily cited an unidentified industry insider as saying. Unless those measures are taken, it will be difficult for the nation to realize its goal of producing 500,000 electric cars annually by 2015, the person said. Green energy cars accounted for less than one percent of China’s overall vehicle sales of 20 million in 2013, the report noted. However, mini electric cars are still missing from the list of green energy vehicles that are eligible for subsidies. Shandong province, a pilot area for mini electric car push, saw sales of 120,000 units such cars in 2013. The nation’s total sales of mini electric cars are expected to reach at least 300,000 units by 2014, the report said.
