Shanghai’s Hongkou district is planning a duty-free shop in the North Bund area to serve cruise passengers, Shanghai Daily reported Thursday, citing officials. Global Duty Free Store will sell major luxury brands, mainly to foreign tourists, Xie Rongrong, a district official was quoted as saying. At present, foreign visitors can only shop at duty-free stores in the departure terminal of cruise harbors. With the new stores, they will be able to shop right after they disembark from the ships, the report said. Also, there are plans to open another duty-free outlet at the Wusong cruise harbor in Baoshan district, a separate report said, citing the Shanghai Tourism Bureau.
