Holiday flight prices soar to ‘illegal’ heights, paper says

Air ticketing agents are breaking the law by raising prices for Spring Festival flights by as much as 225 percent on some popular routes, National Business Daily reported Friday, citing lawyers. Agents have raised prices by big margins on 45 of the 86 most popular travel routes for Jan. 29-31, the peak holiday travel period, the report said. Lawyers said the increases violated Civil Aviation Administration of China regulations as well as pricing laws. About 90 percent of plane tickets are sold through agents, with only 10 percent sold directly by the airlines, the report said.
