Shenzhen has no plans to restrict car purchases, paper says

Shenzhen mayor Xu Qin {許勤} said Thursday that the city has no plans to curb car purchases, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Friday. The local government will, however, continue its existing measures that aim to increase the cost of car usage and ownership, in a bid to keep the vehicle population in check, he was quoted as saying. Xu added that the municipal administration will adopt multiple policies to alleviate traffic congestion. Among the measures will be expanding the construction of highways, introduction of intelligent transport systems and charging toll for cars going to central business districts. Shenzhen is currently the No. 2 in China in terms of car ownership, the report noted.
