The Beijing municipal government is targeting a 5 percent reduction in PM2.5 emission, part of a stepped-up campaign against air pollution, Shanghai Securities News reported Monday. It is the first time the capital city has set a target since it began monitoring PM2.5 in 2013. Beijing experienced eight days of severe air pollution in 2013, or once in six to seven days, local environmental authorities said. The annual PM2.5 intensity was 89.5 micrograms per cubic meter, 1.56 times international standards, the report said.
