Beijing to tackle subdivided housing, paper says

Beijing municipal authorities are weighing two options to eradicate subdivided housing in which it’s common for a dozen people to live in one small room, the Beijing News reported Sunday, citing municipal housing head Yang Bin. One option is to build public housing on collective land next to cities and villages, renting beds out for less than 600 yuan (US$98.68) a month. The other possibility is to build better-quality flats for those with stable incomes, with a monthly rent of between 2,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan, the report quoted Yang as saying.
