China smart TV market to see new initiatives, paper says

China’s smart TV market could see significant developments in the near future, with companies likely to offer the television sets for free for users who sign up for content services, like what is being seen in the smartphone markets now, the 21st Century Business Herald cited an analyst as saying. Zhuo Saijun, analyst with Beijing-based research firm Analysys International, was quoted as saying that a growing number of internet companies, especially those boasting rich video content, are eager to tap into the market. Online video site LeTV has recently launched a 70-inch smart TV at a low price of 8,999 yuan (US$1,487) and bundled with a mandatory two-year content service contract, the report noted.
