China to fully liberalize life insurance premiums, paper says

China will fully liberalize life insurance premium rates before the end of the year, Shanghai Securities News reported Wednesday, citing Xiang Junbo {項俊波}, chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). A pilot program is under way. Also, the CIRC is considering expanding the fundraising channel to enable insurers to replenish their capital, Xiang was quoted as saying. He warned of liquidity and insolvency risks among some insurers whose solvency ratios barely meet the minimum regulatory threshold.
