Chongqing gears up to tackle air pollution, paper says

Chongqing has announced targets for improving air quality, including orders for major industries to cut emissions by more than 30 percent from 2012 levels by 2017, the China Securities Journal reported Wednesday. One key strategy will be to remove obsolete production capacity, with the government set to roll out financial incentives, tax breaks and land policies to encourage polluting firms such as small-scale cement factories and coal-fired power plants to either shut down or go into another business. The city aims to have 3,000 electric or hybrid vehicles on the road by next year, the report said.
