Sino-Japan trade down 5.1% in 2013 as ties fray, Xinhua says

Total trade between China and Japan dropped 5.1 percent last year to US$312.55 billion as bilateral ties worsened, Xinhua reported Tuesday, citing customs data. China’s exports to Japan fell 0.9 percent from a year earlier to US$150.28 billion, while imports from Japan fell 8.7 percent to US$162.28 billion. Commerce ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said the falls stemmed from various economic and diplomatic factors, and China hopes Japan can strive to create favorable conditions for better bilateral trade, the report said.
