Macau 2013 visitor arrivals up 4%, Xinhua says

The number of visitors to Macau rose 4 percent last year to about 29,325,000, with same-day visitors accounting for just over half of the arrivals, Xinhua reported Thursday, citing the city’s Statistics and Census Service. The number of mainland residents visiting the gambling Mecca rose 10 percent year on year to about 18,632,000, of which 43 percent traveled to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme, the report said. South Koreans also went to Macau in greater numbers, with 474,269 arrivals from the country, or 7 percent more than last year. But numbers were down 4 percent from Hong Kong, 7 percent from Taiwan, 4 percent from Malaysia and 27 percent from Japan, it said.
