Beijing has urged the United States to end its anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations into Chinese solar panel producers, Shanghai Securities News reported Monday, citing an official with the Chinese commerce ministry. The US Department of Commerce announced the investigations last week, and will make a preliminary ruling on levy of punitive duties as soon as March if it finds that some solar products from China are being sold in the US below their fair value, or if it determines that the producers were receiving inappropriate government subsidies, it said. China hopes to resolve the trade dispute through dialogue and promote healthy ties in the solar industry, the official was quoted as saying. Trade in solar power products remains a thorn in the Sino-US trade relationship. China last week imposed five-year duties on solar-grade polysilicon imported from the US and South Korea.
