Poorest rural towns no longer put to GDP test, paper says

China’s most impoverished rural communities will no longer be assessed on economic growth but on their progress in eradicating poverty, Beijing News reported Sunday, citing a circular issued by the general offices of the Communist Party’s Central Committee and the State Council. The government is also set to delegate approval rights for poverty reduction projects to local administrations to accelerate investment and reduce poverty, the report said.
