BYD expects California labor fines, WSJ says

Chinese carmaker BYD Co. is expected to pay fines for violations of California labor law, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing a company lawyer. Some of the violations involve Chinese workers who helped set up an electric bus manufacturing plant. California officials last year charged the Shenzhen car and bus maker with violating state labor laws, including incomplete payment documentation and breach of rules related to rest periods and paying Chinese workers at the plant below California’s US$8 hourly minimum wage, the report said.
