Japan to revise teaching manuals amid island rows, Kyodo says

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will ask the national education board to revise its teaching manuals for junior and senior high schools to call the disputed Senkaku (known as Diaoyu in China) and Takeshima (Dokdo in South Korea) islands integral parts of the Japanese territory, Kyodo news agency reported Tuesday. The move, which came ahead of the scheduled revision of teaching manuals in 2016, is expected to invite strong protests from China and South Korea, the report said.
