MIIT sets standards for 3G, 4G rail links, paper says

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is seeking rail authority approval for new technical standards for wireless LAN systems on trains that would let passengers connect to the internet, the Shanghai Securities News reported Wednesday. Under the proposal, China Mobile Ltd (00941.HK), China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd. (00762.HK, 600050.CN) and China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (00728.HK) will be allowed to set up 3G and 4G data networks to cover the rail system. The ministry has submitted the standards to rail departments after a year of network testing, the report said.
