Over a million people still out of power grid reach, Xinhua says

China’s efforts to widen electricity coverage helped 1.5 million people access the national grid last year, but the nation still needs to provide connectivity to about 1.23 million people, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday, citing the National Energy Administration (NEA). The lack of access is most concentrated in the least developed regions in Xinjiang, Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Tibet, where inhospitable terrain and remote distances have hindered coverage, it said. Under an NEA plan, China aims to achieve full electricity coverage by 2015, the report noted.
